Mike & Murphy Feature Friday Special

The Mike & Murphy Feature Friday Special this week will be “Why it Never Hit the Hot 100″. Why would this have happened? There are many cases where an album cut that was never released as a single became an unranked hit, sometimes a new version of a song replaced a song that was a hit (think “If I Was A Carpenter” by Bobby Darin – the hit & June Carter & Johnny Cash which is the version that remains popular today) and some songs just bypassed the system for one reason or the other. The Billboard Hot 100 rated record sales. Sometimes a small record company just could not get enough pressing of a song out to the public or distribute it properly. Learn more this week! One thing is for sure and that is that M&M will always have two great hours of themed oldies and the stories behind them every week!

The show airs Friday and Sunday from 10 to 12 noon on 97.9 The WREN. Past episodes are available under the “Podcast” on the top menu link or here.

A portion of the first Billboard Hot 100 chart from August 10, 1958 (Note missing past weeks positions as there were none!) There were previous charts but they were based on airplay by a few select major radio stations rather than national record sales.

Don’t forget to listen to Dr. J’s Saturday Night Themer show every Saturday night from 10 to Midnight here on The WREN! If you like Mike & Murphy, you’ll love her show, too!

Mike and Murphy: Thanks for posting the link of my music blog tribute to Casey Kasem and American Top 40, that I published around the 50th anniversary of the first AT40 show. July 4, 1970.
